MILTON, Del. - Delaware State Police have identified the victim in a Milton crash that occurred Saturday on Harbeson Road. In the crash, police say a car went off the road and hit a stop sign before overturning and hitting a house. The car came to a stop after crashing through the walls of the garage and resting upright on top of a parked car.
Police say the victim is the 20-year-old driver, Charles Maxwell of Milton. Maxwell was taken to an area hospital in critical condition before being pronounced dead.
Many of his co-workers at Big Fish Grill in Rehoboth Beach, like Ceceilia Sugarman, said, "If he walked in a room it just instantly brightened and I know that sounds kind of cheesy or cliché but it is just so true. He had bright hair, bright eyes, and a bright smile, and a bright personality."
The cause of the accident is still under investigation by Delaware State Police Troop 7's Collision Investigation Unit, but Milton Fire Chief Johnny Hopkins says this is a dangerous bend, "Over the years we've had quite a few accidents in that area mostly due to the curve and the bend in the road. There have been some improvements with the removal of electric poles and things over the years, but we have had quite a few in that particular area."
Charles' co-workers at Big Fish Grill are working to put together a fundraiser to help the family with funeral expenses, that link will be posted here once it's made available.
