The Woodbridge Blue Raiders went a perfect 5-0 in regular season play before falling to Archmere Academy in the semifinals of the DIAA playoffs a season ago.
Marvin Dooley takes over as head coach. He won the 2014 DIAA Division I football state championship at his alma mater at William Penn. He also had head coaching stints at Avaon Grove (PA), Christiana and most recently at St. Elizabeth.
Dooley will have plenty of returning players from a season ago including leading rusher Jaden Bacon. Bacon led the team in carries (74), yards (699) and touchdowns (9). Right behind him was fellow classmate Kenny Newton. Newton had 64 carries for 437 yards and second behind Bacon with four scores. Senior Jordan Evans and Junior Kshawn Cox are both expected to be involved after rushing for over 100 yards in limited playing time.
Evans was the primary quarterback going 7-for-19 on pass attempts for 150 yards.
Defensively, Woodbridge will have leading tackler Wyatt Wright returning after posting 46 total tackles and 16 going for a loss his junior year. Or'mon and Corey Sanders, both rising seniors, has combined for 21 TFLs. The Blue Raiders will have to replace eight seniors who all saw significant time on defense.
The Blue Raiders open up their season at home against Cape Henlopen on September 10.
