Trooper Fatally Shoots Suspect

(Claymont, Del) A Delaware State Trooper shot and killed a man early Sunday morning in Claymont. The trooper was responding to a burglary alarm as a drug store on Naaman's Road when he saw the suspect exit the rear of the store and get into a vehicle. The man, identified as Michael L McKillop, 35 years old of Philadelphia attempted to flee with the trooper at his opened driver's door. The trooper was dragged as the man put the vehicle into reverse and struck the trooper's vehicle. He then attempted to drive off, when the trooper shot the suspect. The trooper rendered first aid while awaiting EMS. The suspect was flown to Christiana Hospital where he died. The trooper was taken to Wilmington Hospital where he was treated and released. The 16 year veteran of the Delaware State Police assigned to Troop 1 in Claymont has been placed on administrative leave as per Divisional Policy, pending the outcome of the investigation.
