A Final Farewell to Coach Susan Pusey

A Final Farewell to Coach Susan Pusey

(POCOMOKE CITY, Md.) - Hundreds of people gathered at Pocomoke City High School to say their final farewells to their beloved wife, mother, sister, friend and field hockey coach-Susan Pusey.

Pusey's oldest son Trevor led the ceremony held in the auditorium and had the entire audience in tears, both from sadness and laughter.

"Today is about remembering all the great things she's done for every one of us," started Trevor Pusey. "I just want to remind us this morning, we don't need to think about what could've been, or what should've been. And the hopes we have about seeing my mom, Susan one more day."

Once Trevor Pusey left the stage, several of Susan Pusey's closest friends took the microphone to share some their precious moments spent with the coach.

Her good friend shared the moment they met on the field hockey field at Salisbury University.

Her sister spoke about growing up and unwrapping Christmas presents to peak at what they would get.

Several athletes also showed the audience that although Susan Pusey was their coach, she was much taught them a lot more than just how to hold a field hockey stick.

"Ms. Pusey was like a second mom to me. She inspired all of us on and off the field. She just made us want more out of life," shared Alexis Dize.

"I would do anything to give you one more hug, dance with you at one more wedding and receive one more call. Ms. Pusey I will never stop trying to make you proud," said one of her athletes through tears.

One of her past athletes said the coach was in attendance at her college hockey games as well as her wedding just last month.

The same athlete shared a funny moment that made the whole crowd burst out in laughter.

The audience couldn't help but erupt in applause and a standing ovation after a special announcement was made by principal Annette Wallace.

"In the fall, we will christen Pusey Field at Byrd Stadium," the principal said while holding back tears.

Although her family held their composure for most of the ceremony, it was with that announcement her son Trevor broke down into tears.

After the ceremony, the field hockey team led Coach Susan Pusey in the last of her 16 Championship parades.

"Thank you Ms. Pusey for the lessons, memories and unconditional love. You will forever be our champion, I love you," expressed one of her athletes.

All the speakers collectively spoke of her love, dedication and the fact that Coach Susan Pusey will always bleed blue and gold.

Since the coach passed on Sunday, an overwhelming amount of support has been flooding social media with the hashtag #PuseyStrong.

In lieu of flowers, the Pusey family is asking for any memorial donations to be made to the Pocomoke High School, c/o Annette Wallace, 1817 Old Virginia Road, Pocomoke City, MD 21851 to support of the field hockey program.
