(REHOBOTH, Del)-The latest blast of artic air is causing high winds and extremely low temperatures on Delmarva.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory for the entire Delmarva Peninsula.
Forecasters are expecting the wind chill to drop as low minus 10 degrees.
John Roberg is a private contractor in charge of fixing the irrigation system on Rehoboth Avenue.
Having to work in such harsh weather conditions has forced him to make some adjustments to work comfortably in the bitter cold.
"I'm just shoveling fast, trying to stay warm man," Roberg explained. "I got 6 layers of t shirts on and if I get hot I can take one off, but when you don't have enough shirts, that is when you're in trouble."
With temperatures dropping this low, hypothermia and frostbite are very real concerns.
This can be especially dangerous for Delaware's estimated 6,000 homeless people.
"Really when people are outside for more than two hours and it is consistently below 40 degrees they are at risk for hypothermia," said Janet Idema.
Shelters like the Immanuel Emergency Shelter in Rehoboth Beach give homeless people a safe, warm place to spend the night.
"Our effort is to protect people from the bitter cold and hopefully save life and limb," Idema went on.
Doors for the Immanuel Shelter open every day at 4:30 PM, but the Community Resource Center in Rehoboth Beach is open all day for those in need.
"We are all just one step away from being homeless," explained Immanuel Volunteer, Jamie Drew. "It's just one bad accident that means you're out of work and can't pay your bills."
