GEORGETOWN, Del. - An annual fundraiser is gearing up to walk on two legs and on four through the pandemic. The Brandywine Valley SPCA has resurrected its Walk for Paws event and now people and their pets can sign up to help.
Walk for Paws was canceled in 2020, but BVSPCA has found a way to hold the event this year by dividing multiple events up across its four campuses over the course of two weekends to spread people and their pets out.
BVSPCA will bring a Doggie Lure Course to Georgetown May 7th to 9th. People can bring their dogs to run the obstacle course guided by a lure, which is like a dog toy.
Puppy Yoga takes place at the Animal Rescue Center and Kent Campus on May 14th and 15th.
"We've been closed up and shut away, so now it's a great opportunity to get your family and your dog out as well," says Development Manager Jody Rini.
Rini says Walk for Paws is one of the organization's largest fundraisers. The 34th year aims to raise $125,000. BVSPCA says their virtual event raised just shy of that in 2020 and that people who sign up this year can help the 40 plus animals coming through the shelter doors everyday.
"It goes towards all of our flights, it goes towards all of the affordable care, healthcare that we offer, education programs that we put out, every dollar counts," Rini says. "It extends or expands all of the opportunities that we have to offer and just day to day care that we have coming in and out of the shelter."
Sign your dog up for the lure course for $20. Sign yourself up for puppy yoga for $30.
RIni says adoptable dogs will be available at the events and during the events at the shelters.
