MILFORD, Del.- Defying odds to live life to the fullest.
Tina Hollis turned 65 Saturday, but she did not know a long line of people in cars and fire trucks would parade and send her well wishes.
Those who know Tina best describe her as loving everybody for who they are and that more Tina’s are needed in the world.
Lana Myers grew up in Tina’s care and now she watches over Tina who has cancer.
"Growing up she would take me to church, take me down to the parks," Myers said. "We went everywhere together. She was my first best friend in life. And now, we got to rekindle that."
Hollis was diagnosed in February and was not expected to make it to her 65th birthday, but she was sitting in her driveway waving to those who appreciate her, including one of her friend's Shannon Villareal.
"A month ago we did not even know, we didn’t think Tina was going to make it today to see her 65th birthday," Villareal said. "So, for her to be with us today thinking a month ago we were going to lose her, we are the one’s blessed."
Five fire departments participated in the parade including Carlisle, Frederica, Bowers, and Slaughter Beach. South Bowers Fire Company and Fire Chief Bobby Johnson took the lead in gathering everyone and the other fire crews.
"The community always has a backing throughout the fire departments locally," Johnson said. "It’s a special day for Tina and we just want to be here and give back to the community."
Hollis will continue to fight and keep living life with her special qualities.
