Cancer Survivors' Support Highlighted at Rehoboth Conference

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.- Individuals and organizations came together in fellowship and support to discuss life after cancer.

The eighth annual "After Ringing the Bell" cancer survivorship conference was held at the Atlantic Sands Thursday. It was hosted by the Sussex County Survivorship Coalition.

The conference included keynote speeches and aimed to help survivors develop a personal wellness vision for their life after beating the disease.

"It's a way that we can get together as a group and we can join together in that connectedness as group," explained Dr. Carolyn Trasko. "As a collective be able to inform ourselves and teach ourselves different things about how to empower us to get well."

Medical professionals from places like Beebe Healthcare and organizations like the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition took part to highlight wellness opportunities for survivors, such as mindfulness techniques and integrative medicine.

Survivors say the conference's benefits were just as emotional as physical.

"There are often times in larger cities where survivors can get lost because the cities are so large and you don't know about these types of forums," says Natalie Belcher. "So just to be able to know about it and have it in your hometown or close to your hometown, I think it's phenomenal."
