Child struck, transported to A.I. Dupont Hospital

(Rehoboth Beach, Del) - A child was injured Sunday evening when he was struck by a car. According to Rehoboth Beach Police, the accident happened around 7:30 pm Sunday, June 11, 2017, when the child was struck in the second block of Maryland Avenue.

Ross Weise, 6, of Lititz, Pa., unexpectedly exited the front yard of a property located along the north side of Maryland Avenue via the driveway and entered into the roadway where his Father was retrieving items from a parked vehicle. At that time, Nicholas S. Rosello, 76, of Dover was driving westbound on Maryland Avenue at what witnesses described as a normal speed.

Due to the vehicles parked along the shoulder of the roadway, Rosello's view of the child entering the roadway was obstructed. As Weise left the driveway entrance, crossing the shoulder, he entered into the path of Rosello's vehicle at which time the front of the vehicle struck him knocking him to the ground causing injury. No other persons or vehicles were involved in the collision.

As a result of the collision, Weise was transported from the scene to the Rehoboth Elementary School where he was transferred to a helicopter and flown to Nemours Alfred I. duPont Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, the extent of which are unknown at this time.
