Churches Prepare For Empty Pews During Holy Week

This is the most important period of time in the Christian faith, Palm Sunday followed by Easter Sunday. This year Palm Sunday is April 5th and it will occur with mostly empty churches in Sussex County. To connect with their members, a number of churches have embraced virtual technology in delivering the message of Jesus and the Resurrection. The

Lewes Presbyterian Church

has been putting audio recordings on its website. They plan to add video for the next two Sundays. "We are also going to put up some music," said Rev. Greg Weist. "We are going to ask everyone to worship at the same time at 10:00 AM so we can understand that we are worshiping at the same time as everyone else."

Parsell Funeral Homes

has been assisting

St. Edmund's Catholic Church

in Rehoboth Beach by posting video of Mass. The Church says the plan to record Mass for Palm Sunday and live stream on Easter.

"It is also amazing to thing that holy week and Easter don't rely on buildings full of people." Both Reformation and Lewes Presbyterian tell WRDE that they plan on holding a large celebration with their respective congregations once the State of Emergency has ended and people can attend larger gatherings.
