Coastal Catch: Matt's Fish Camp Fenwick Island

FENWICK ISLAND, Del. - Southern Delaware is home to gorgeous beaches and great food. WRDE will give you behind the scenes looks at some of your favorite restaurants along the coast.

Matt's Fish Camp opened a new location in Fenwick Island about three weeks ago, and it already has some local favorites, like the Sussex County Fried Rice.

SoDel Concepts Founder, Matt Haley opened the the first Matt's Fish Camp location in Bethany Beach in 2011, after visiting fish camps that he really enjoyed. It has now expanded to three locations.

"They give homage and tributes back to the original fish camps, from along time ago with the buoys, the bait signs, the menus are slightly different, we have some Baltimore style food on this menu being close to Maryland," said corporate chef, Ronnie Burkle.

Executive Chef Charles Armstrong said, "We've only been open for 3 weeks now, it seems our Sussex County Fried Rice bowl is very special and people love it."

That's fried chicken, local scrapple and rice.

While the chicken fried, Chef Armstrong said "we'll start with the rice, napa cabbage, mushrooms, edamame, we will cook that down for a little bit get it nice and hot."

Chef Charles then smeared jalapeno ginger mayo on the plate, and topped it off with the rice, chicken, fried egg, scrapple, a Japanese 7 spice, and green onions.

Matt's Fish Camp is a place that Burkle says brings the community together with it's family friendly atmosphere, and simple and fresh ingredients.

Matt's Fish Camp is open daily from 4 PM - 9 PM.
