(Dewey Beach, DE) - Construction continues at the Hyatt Place in Dewey Beach. What was a six-year project now has an extension for another five- years. The town of Dewey Beach will receive a $300,000 cash payment and $1.4 million in possible future penalties in exchange for amending an agreement with Dewey Beach Enterprises.
The next phase of the project will include more condos, another level to the parking garage and a roof-top pool on the 3rd floor.
Mike Kinnard, Vice President of Development adds, "A gazebo will be on the Vandyke side of the property and will be available for the entire towns use."
Delays on the project are due to weather and the firing of the old general contractor. The new general contractor Tom Nason expects the process to move swiftly and take only about 2 to 3 years.
Although the project has taken long than expected, according to the Chamber of Commerce President Carol Everhart, it has brought money into the area. On average, a person who stays over night puts in about $200 into the Dewey economy.
Tom Nason thinks, "The future is incredibly exciting for this project and the future phases of this project."
