Coyote Sightings In Lewes

(LEWES, Del.) - There were a couple of scary sightings for a few people in lewes who believe they've spotted a coyote.

WRDE knows of at least two recent sightings in the area.

It was first reported in a recent community newsletter.

A home owner in the Bay Breeze Estates said she went to take her dog for a walk one early monday morning when they saw a coyote waiting down the road at Bay Breeze and Sandpiper Drives.

Other eye witnesses tell WRDE they've spotted the canine just last week.

We've heard of recent sightings in new york, in manhattan, which is a densely populated area. now people here on delmarva say they've also spotted coyotes out and about.

No one was hurt, but the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control advises individuals not to feed or try to get close to any coyotes.

Neighbors say the spottings have put them on alert.

"Wild animals could carry rabbies and in a residential area. fortunaetly there aren't many kids around here," said Royce Haynes. "So i guess it's less of a concern for the senior citizens, but it would be of concern."

DNREC says coyote sightings are not new in any of state's three counties. in fact, they say coyotes are present in every state across the country, except Hawaii.
