LEWES, Del - Joining the efforts of other regional public transportation providers such as SEPTA and NJ Transit, DART is taking a moment to acknowledge the work of its employees in an audible way.
At 3:00 p.m. DART bus drivers honked their horns in solidarity with all transit workers on the front lines of the ongoing pandemic for the new #SoundtheHorn campaign. This is part of the national #HeroesMovingHeroes initiative.
The gesture was done in an attempt to lift the spirits of drivers and show appreciation for sacrifices that DART says often go unacknowledged.
John Sisson, Delaware Transit Company's CEO says public transportation workers are often left out when recognizing the sacrifices of front line workers. “We believe the transit employees are sometimes forgotten in those acknowledgments”, he said.
He remarked on the roles bus drivers and other transit employees play during this time saying, “they’re bringing employees to grocery stores, they’re bringing nurses to hospitals, they’re taking our customers to dialysis which they would not live without. They’re doing critical things”.
DART hopes to continue efforts to support the #HeroesMovingHeroes campaign and finding new and creative ways to show appreciation to it's employees.
Sisson, spoke with pride about the DART team saying, "Our employees are working diligently whether at home or on a bus. I'm truly blessed to have such a great team."
