DOVER, Del.- Getting more vaccines into more arms. That is DPH’s goal as vaccine distribution continues.
In order to get more people in and out at one time, vaccines were administered by a drive-through process. Some cars had four people inside getting the shot at once.
Governor John Carney stopped by to tour the operation and he thinks events like this will be able to speed up the timeline of vaccination.
"It also gives us an opportunity to test out increasing the throughput," Carney said. "Getting more people vaccinated in a mass kind of way so that we can get to the general public faster and on a timely basis.
These POD's are only targeted to certain members of Phase 1A which includes healthcare workers and first responders. Healthcare personnel from Bayhealth helped to administer the vaccines. DPH Director of Nursing Dr. Rebecca Walker says more partners supported in other ways.
"DelDOT is the one who has offered up the facility and DMV as well as provided all of our traffic control and safety for us," Dr. Walker said. "We have Delaware Medical Reserve Corps. They are a core group of volunteers that have come out to help either vaccinate or help screen or help move traffic along."
The first state coming together to fight a major pandemic.
