DelDOT Launches "Report a Pedestrian Issue" on Website and App

DELAWARE - DelDOT launched a “report a pedestrian issue” on its website, DelDOT.gov, and free app. If you are walking on the sidewalk, roadway, or a path, you can submit any issue you come across anywhere in the state.

DelDOT says it has already received seven reports so far, at least one in each county. In Sussex County it was about overflow parking across the street from a church in Millsboro.

"The purpose is to get more of an idea from citizens who are out there who are using pedestrian facilities, or want to use pedestrian facilities where they have needs,” said Linda Osiecki, DelDOT Pedestrian Coordinator.

Osiecki said there may be holes in the pedestrian network that they aim to fix.

"I use the acronym MAPS, I focus on mobility for people, accessibility for people, and focus on pedestrian safety,” said Osiecki.

Lack of sidewalks, more signs, and a broken push button at the crosswalk can all be reported to DelDOT.

"I think a lot of people aren't aware of how many pedestrian fatalities and serious injuries there are, so it's something we are really trying to alleviate, and this way in providing better facilities for people,” said Osiecki.

According to the state, 23 pedestrians have died in this year alone. Osiecki says it's important to use marked pedestrian crossings, signals, and wear reflective clothing at night.

You can still call DelDOT to report urgent issues at 302-659-4600. The DelDOT app is available for Apple and Android devices.
