GEORGETOWN, Del. - As the pandemic continues, the need for food assistance continues for so many. On Monday, the Food Bank of Delaware held it's third massive mobile food pantry in Georgetown.
"Here in our ongoing response to COVID-19 to make sure no Delawarean goes without food that they need ... We had one in each county in both March and April, so this will be the round for May," says Chad Robinson, community relations director for the Food Bank of Delaware.
The food bank received help from DelDot, volunteers from the Red Cross, Delaware State Police, Delaware National Guard, the Indian River School District, Department of Justice, and more.
"A little over 100 folks that are out here today, and we couldn't do it without each and every one of them," says Robinson.
Monday's food pantry was even more meaningful for some. Sergeant First Class of the Delaware National Guard, Latrinka Lee has been in Sussex County all her life.
"I actually went to school at Sussex Central ... my kids graduated from Sussex Tech, both of my boys, and my husband graduated from Sussex Tech, so we are in this area all the time. I'm like 5 minutes away from here so it means a lot to give back to the community and be here supporting those around me," says Sgt. Lee.
The food bank says it distributed 78,986 pounds of food, serving 1,491 families on Monday.
There will be two more distributions for the month of May. On Wednesday, May 20th, at 11 a.m., the Food Bank will hold a mobile food pantry in Kent County, at Dover International Speedway. Another will be held on Friday, May 22nd, at 11 a.m., at Glasgow High School in New Castle County.
