REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.- Holidays in the nation’s summer capital seem back to normal with a rush of visitors at the beach and boardwalk on Saturday.
Local shops and restaurants opening their doors to guests like Dam Miller from Millsboro without any safety protocols to follow.
"Glad to see them," Miller said. "Last year, we came down and there was nobody here. All of the shops were closed up. Now I can spend my money just about anywhere."
For some this weekend is a new beginning. Schell Brothers held the grand opening of their new coffee shop on Rehoboth Avenue. Marketing Director Alyssa Titus says people were lined up early to grab some joe and some breakfast before hitting the beach.
"To see people out and about and their vaccinated without masks is really awesome," Titus said. "We’ve had a really great first day here and been busy since before we were officially opened. I think before seven o’clock we were serving coffees."
Fourth of July is Independence Day for our country but this year it feels like independence is being celebrated by local business owners. Owner of Pet Wants Chad Miller says visitors are also able to be independent without all the restrictions that were in place at this time last year.
"It's so much more of a relaxed atmosphere," Miller said. "They feel that they are safe. Very little concerns now. I mean I see people in restaurants. People are out and about and just enjoying life."
A side note to the improved atmosphere. An additional Dolle’s sign on Rehoboth Avenue which Miller said he had to see for himself.
"I wanted to make sure I went down there before I opened my store and it looks really good and it pops out," Miller said. "So, I think he’ll get a lot of visitors."
Funster will be playing at the bandstand before and after tonight’s fireworks display in Rehoboth Beach. The display will begin at 9:30 p.m.
Celebrating the red, white, and blue with independence for all.
