GEORGETOWN, Del.- Georgetown’s drive-in church service moves to a new location.
Beginning Sunday morning, people were redirected to Sandhill Fields. A construction project at the Marvel Carriage Museum forced the service to be taken elsewhere. There was also concern over how wet the grass area gets and the cars driving on it.
The service started back in July as a way for people to worship during the pandemic. Mayor Bill West says the gathering benefits older people who can tune in from the safety of their cars.
"You’ve got seniors that have health issues," West said. "And, for them to attend a church service and never have to leave their vehicle is outstanding. They’ve got the security of their vehicle sitting in there, tuning into a radio station and hearing the whole sermon."
According to the mayor, the service will continue at Sandhill Fields through March, but then another new location will have to be found due to tournaments being scheduled at the complex.
Services are every Sunday with music starting at 8:45 a.m.
