(LEWES, Del.)- The ceremonial completion of a significant portion of the Georgetown-Lewes trail happens Wednesday afternoon.
With construction starting in March of this year, the 1.1-mile trail starts at Gills Neck Road and ends at Savannah Road in Lewes. Commemorating the official completion of construction will be Delaware Governor Jack Markell, Delaware Department of Transportation Secretary Jennifer Cohan, Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Secretary David Small, Delaware Speaker of the House Peter Schwartzkopf, State Senator Ernie Lopez, and Lewes Mayor Ted Becker.
The 17-mile trail is part of The Trails and Pathways Initiative, a partnership led by the Department of Transportation, the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control and other partners. The Lewes-Georgetown Trail is part of a larger network of state-wide pathways and trails which support non-motorized travel and recreation options for Delaware's residents and visitors.
