Graffiti On Town Property & Businesses Upsets Workers & Visitors

BETHANY BEACH, Del.- Outrage after the vandalism that occurred in Bethany Beach.

Bethany Police say it started Saturday night when the bandstand, businesses, and other town property had graffiti drawn in different places. Numerous complaints came in from people who were in Bethany.

These photos were posted by the owner of Water Lili Women's Clothing Store who calls the act disgusting.

But Jeannette Twigg works at the store and while she doesn't agree with it, she can justify why the suspects did what they did.

"I think a lot of young people are frustrated and some are bored right now and upset," Twigg said. "That's not the right way to express yourself but it was the way someone chose to express themself."

The story then turned to Ocean City on Monday. OC Police were called to a report of tagging with blue spray paint. They were able to determine that a 17 year old from Timonium, Maryland was responsible for the Bethany vandalism. They arrested that teenager. Bethany Beach Police later arrested a second juvenile.

After the incident occurred, people have been voicing their opinions on social media. Visitors in Bethany Beach like Trish Gussis of Millville say that the act was unnecessary.

"It's absolutely horrific," Gussis said. "Why would anyone want to do that? Too much time on their hands? To do something like that is just disgusting."

A community unhappy the beach town was targeted.

Both departments continue to work together to crack down on other graffiti incidents. According to the Ocean City Police Department, this case has been referred to the Department of Juvenile Services.
