DELMARVA - Monday will bring a noticeable increase in heat and humidity across Sussex County as warm, moist air settles over the region.
The morning may begin with areas of low clouds, but conditions should gradually improve through midday. Skies will become partly sunny, with temperatures climbing into the upper 80s to around 90 degrees inland. Beaches will remain somewhat cooler.
Humidity will continue to rise as dew points reach the upper 60s to low 70s. Most locations should stay dry through the day, although an isolated afternoon or evening shower or thunderstorm cannot be ruled out.
Any storm that develops could produce a brief downpour and gusty winds, but widespread severe weather is not expected Monday.
Monday night will remain warm and muggy under partly cloudy skies. Overnight temperatures will generally fall into the upper 60s to low 70s.
By early Tuesday morning, the region will be entering a hotter and more unstable weather pattern. Tuesday is expected to be one of the hottest days of the week, with temperatures later in the day potentially reaching the mid-90s and heat index values approaching 100 degrees.
The threat for stronger thunderstorms will also begin increasing Tuesday, marking the start of a more active period that could bring severe storms and flash flooding through Thursday.
