 LEWES, Del.- Dive into a good book!
Dolly Parton, Governor John Carney, and Delaware's First Lady Tracy Quillen Carney announced the expansion of Imagination Library to all of Delaware, emphasizing the importance of having access to books.
The program will allow children age five and under to receive books without cost to their parents. It will be available statewide effective immediately.Â
Lewes Public Library’s Children’s Librarian Jennifer Noonan is thrilled to see the program expand across the first state.
"This is an absolute dream come true for me as a children’s librarian," Noonan said. "The thought of every kid in the state of Delaware having access to free books mailed directly to their home it’s just something that I have wanted for a long time and I am just so glad to see it come to fruition."
The Imagination Library is an important piece to the First Chance Delaware initiative led by First Lady Carney. Part of that initiative is to promote children’s learning especially through reading.
The program started for children in the Cape Henlopen School District in 2018. Noonan has heard raving reviews from parents and cannot thank state leaders and the Delaware Department of Libraries enough for their efforts in making this happen.
"For them to make it a part of the First Chance initiative is just really exciting," Noonan added. "The fact that every kid in Delaware is now going to be eligible to apply and receive these books is just wonderful."
