GEORGETOWN, Del.- Police have opened an investigation into the disappearance of 2-year-old Cristobal L. Lopez.
The AMBER Alert said the child is a Hispanic male with brown hair and brown eyes. His mother, 26-year-old Angelina L. Lopez of Seaford took her son unlawfully She is a Hispanic female about five. feet tall, 150 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
When last seen, Cristobal was wearing blue shoes and a yellow shirt. Angelina was wearing a black long sleeve shirt and blue pants.
Georgetown Detective Joseph Melvin told WRDE there was a child abuse complaint on June 5.
"The victim was her son Cristobal," Melvin said. "After she was arrested she was released with bail conditions that she could only have contact with Cristobal through supervised custody so that is why we have concerns for Cristobal's safety right now."
Due to the arrest, Angelina was issued a court order which states that Cristobal is to stay in the custody of his cousin. Angelina was visiting her son over the past weekend before the two went missing. According to the cousin, Angelina took Cristobal early Sunday morning along with a black and light blue colored car seat.
Karen Euceda has lived in Georgetown for over 20 years and has not heard anything like this.
"Because most Latino people are very family-oriented," Euceda said. "I particularly have not heard of a woman abusing her child. I mean if it happens, it’s very rare."
Georgetown Police ask anyone with information to contact them. Any new details could help solve this case.
"We just want to keep pushing the photographs out of Cristobal and his mother," Melvin added. "If they see anybody that looks like them, please call 911 immediately. The faster we can get someone out there to investigate of course there are better chances of identifying them."
