Lawn of Racial Justice Group's Leader Vandalized with Weed Killer

LEWES, Del.- "I ran out the house which isn't exactly running because I can't walk," Charlotte King said.

King is the chair of the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice and lives in the Wolfe Point development in Lewes. She is very active in the community,

Over the weekend, she found the word "Trump" written out on her front lawn. Somebody used a weed killer to burn it into her grass. It was painted over by a landscaper Monday.  King feels that she was targeted along Aimee Wiest, who she lives with.

"I think it was a deliberate attempt to leave a message, which is so unnecessary because what the alliance has tried to do is only positive work," King said.

"We've been very much involved," Wiest said. "I have especially been involved with the community and everyone here has been especially supportive afterwards and we were friendly beforehand. So, I could see no way to connect this action with this community."

The community is not used to seeing acts of vandalism like this. But, King and state leaders that have reached out to her are looking at this as an opportunity to bring people together. Neighbors have been stopping by to show their support.

One neighbor I spoke to says King has posted Anti-Trump comments on social media. A post back in late October on King's personal page expresses negative opinions towards President Trump and his leadership. But King says this is not a Biden-Trump issue. It is a reason to come together.

"We all have to respect each other and work towards that beloved community," King said.

Delaware State Police went to King's house Sunday to begin an investigation. Police say the incident is not being investigated as a hate crime.
