Lewes Board of Health Discusses COVID-19

LEWES, Del. - On Wednesday afternoon, the Lewes Board of Health discussed COVID-19 precautions with Sussex County EMS and health officials from Beebe Healthcare.

"We recommend that people consider self-hygiene, consider banning large gatherings of people, and encouraging people who are sick not to attend these meetings, or visit in areas if they're sick. Fevers, shortness of breath, and a cough,” says James Marvel, Lewes Board of Health President.

The Board of Health also recommended employers and the City of Lewes extend vacation and sick leave, "to allow people to be out for the full 14 days if they're sick, or if they're caring for a sick person at home,” says Marvel.

Beebe Healthcare says it has been preparing for COVID-19 to reach Delaware.

Delaware Health and Social Services says to wash your hands frequently, do not touch your face, clean surfaces regularly, cough or sneeze into your elbow, stay home when you are sick, and get the flu vaccine.

"My son is military over in South Korea, he has been there now for almost a year and a half ... Take the precautions that everybody has been putting out there, take that part seriously. Take precautions, but don't over react,” says Millsboro resident, Lee Parks.
