Love, Lewes Campaign Aims to Restart the City's Economy

LEWES, Del. -  Love, Lewes is the name of the city’s new campaign to restart the economy, and a way for the businesses in the city to show their love and support to the community.

The campaign is recreating the connection that was lost during quarantine.

"We landed on this concept of Love, Comma Lewes. Which is a love letter to the community again to say we love you. Please come here and shop and love us back, please take care of each other,” says Darica Ward, Volunteer for the campaign.

The Chamber of Commerce asked the business community what it is they need to have a successful reopening.

"Our customers are our neighbors and our friends, and there is just no way we are going to let them down. So we needed to communicate out to the broader community we got your back and we are going to keep you safe, and in return we'd like you to keep us safe,” says Ward.

The Love, Lewes images will be transformed into banners and blanketed across 2nd Street, Front Street, and Savannah Road.

In addition to the campaign, there will be an Ambassador Hospitality Program.

"That group of volunteers from the American Legion stepped right up, and they're going to be on the streets here as Lewes Ambassadors, welcoming our visitors, telling them basics where parking is where the bathrooms are.”

Ward says many stores are already making Love, Lewes t-shirts, mugs, and stickers.

Students from Cape Henlopen High School’s DECA program are also lending a hand.

"They're manning our social media channels, they are the ones that are going to be out there planting yard signs for people that purchase yard signs. And it's just so energizing to be around the youth at DECA, they are just so poised, and bright and committed,” says Ward.

Love, Lewes yard signs will be available for purchase at Lewes Wear, the Chamber of Commerce’s website, Love, Lewes Facebook page, and on Instagram @lovecommalewes.

"There are amazing things going on in Lewes. It's a safe place to come. We are going to take care of you please come and love us back,” says Ward.

Pricing for yard signs has not been set yet, but they will be available in the coming weeks. The city says a portion of the proceeds will be utilized for marketing Lewes, showcasing the new brand.
