LEWES De.--Each year, Delaware Today and the Delaware Business Times feature some of the most successful, influential, and up-and-coming women in business.
This year, although hundreds of women are constantly making a difference across Delmarva, only 34 women in Delaware made it to the 'Top 2020 Women in Business' list.
From corporate innovators to small business owners and leaders in the non-profit world, the event featured women from all walks of life.
"I nominated Stacy LaMotta and she was honored as one of the Women in Business, so we decided to have a little gathering since it couldn't be a big event with some of Stacy's friends and supporters," said the event hostess Sarah Gilmour.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions about 25 people made it to the luncheon at Lefty's Alley and Eats in Lewes, Delaware, on Thursday with hundreds of others tuning in virtually.
LaMottta is the executive director, founder and event organizer of Creative Coastal Connections and she said that not only was she honored to have been one of the winners chosen, but she also acknowledges the importance of women empowerment.
"I feel like just by being a woman, we are always trying to prove ourselves," she said. "I mean I think it's becoming known more now that women are smart, you know, they're logical, they think things out, they can shuffle things around more because that's what their nature is and they thrive in a business environment."
Likewise, Patricia Rivera whose the founder of Hook PR and Marketing was also one of the chosen top 'Women in Business.' Rivera said she moved to the United States at just 7 years old from her home country in Bolivia. She, too, recognizes the importance of representing her immigrant community.
"We work hard every day to accomplish what we do and yes, absolutely, it's an honor as an immigrant to be part of this celebration," she said.
Whether close or from afar, many women were able to network at this annual event and they made it clear, they were not going to let Coronavirus protocols hinder their empowerment.
