MILFORD, Del. - In the COVID-19 era, Milford Library has found a way to make sure every person who lays their hand on a book, will receive a sterilized one.
The device is called Steri-Book. The microwave-like device sterilizes all of the material that enters the libraries. Using ultra-violet light, it sterilizes six books at a time. Milford Library Director, Kay Hudson says Steri-Book was invented in 2011, and was made available in certain countries except North America.
When COVID-19 became an issues in the United States, only 10 Steri-Book machines were released to the U.S.
"I was lucky enough to get the 10th one!" said Hudson. "I felt it was a very patron friendly thing to promote here in Milford so that people would feel very confident about taking items out of here, knowing that they have been sterilized before they went back out to them."
While the library is still closed for browsing, curbside pick-up is offered Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
