Mixed Precipitation On The Way, Delawareans Respond To Winter Storms Differently

SUSSEX COUNTY, Del.- Slippery conditions could be returning Thursday morning with a mixed bag of snow, rain, and ice.

The threat of snow has been persistent for weeks making it difficult for the average Delawarean to clean up, but businesses are getting a boost from the wintry weather.

Bests' Ace Hardware in Lewes has been busy around the time snow is in the forecast, but Store Manager Bruce Jordan says there are some inventory concerns as they await another order of salt.

"We are doing fine with the shovels," Jordan said. "The salt is dwindling because we have a few ice events in the last couple of days. So we are down. When we started we had eight pallets of salt and that was three weeks ago and now we are down to half a pallet."

The Notting Hill Coffee Roastery has been a popular spot for walkers to get a hot cup of joe to warm up. Owner Amy Felker is considering closing Thursday.

"If there’s the slightest bit of chance it’s going to snow and I can close, I am going to do it," Felker said. "But really it always depends on my staff. If my staff wants to work, great, then we are going to be open. We are just going to wait and see."

A Pennsylvania couple who also owns a house in Rehoboth Beach has been enjoying their visit to the city. Debbie Timblin of Rose Valley, Pennsylvania says the shoveling and snow blowing is getting old.

"After yesterday it was beautiful," Timblin said. "I was actually on the beach and it was gorgeous. So, it gave you that little taste of what is coming up in spring and summer. So, I am ready for summer and ready to have the snow be gone."

AAA is encouraging drivers to prepare for tomorrow’s event. It suggests to pack an emergency kit with blankets, gloves, snacks and other essential items. Also, make sure your phone is charged and if you do need to drive around to give yourself extra time to warm up the car before you head out.
