Multiple Fights, Rowdy Boardwalk Crowd Lead To Riots in Ocean City

(OCEAN CITY, Md.)- There were two major incidents Saturday night on the boardwalk.

The first incident happened Saturday at 12:39 a.m., police said.

Authorities say officers observed a large disorderly crowd at 7th Street and the boardwalk which quickly grew to several hundred people.

The crowd was very hostile and aggressive towards officers, according to police. Dozens of police officers responded to the scene including assistance from Maryland State Police and Worcester County Sheriff's Office. There were a total of 9 arrests made.

When officers were able to disperse the crowd at 7th Street another large crowd grew in the area of 10th Street, police said. Officers responded and some members of the crowd, according to police, went into a nearby bar and began throwing bottles at officers. Several additional arrests were made.

The second incident happened Saturday at 9:43 p.m. near 1st Street and the boardwalk.

Authorities go on to say officers observed a male kick a trashcan to the middle of the boardwalk. Several officers approached the suspect to place him under arrest, however, he was uncooperative and assaulted officers, police said. A large hostile crowd gathered during the arrest and numerous officers were assaulted. A total of five arrests were made in this incident.

No officers or suspects suffered injuries during either of these incidents.
