DOVER, De. -Delaware General Assembly recently passed a new bill that aims to increase penalties for commercial polluters and directs more money to the communities who are being affected by the environmental violations.
With the new law, the fines will be increased for violations across a range of state environmental laws which includes hazardous waste, oil pollution, nutrient management, stream contamination and noise control.
According to Delaware General Assembly, under this current law only 25% of the fines being collected will be allocated to the Community Environmental Project Fund. This Act adds to the fund 40% of the fines collected from oil pollution and noise control.
