DELAWARE – The Coastal Delaware National Wildlife Refuge Complex, which includes Prime Hook and Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuges, is asking the public to review and comment on proposed research plans.
At Prime Hook, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is evaluating proposed activities such as wildlife tagging, plant sampling and habitat monitoring.
While Bombay Hook has not previously permitted this kind of work, the proposal would allow research by universities, government agencies and qualified members of the public on its grounds too.
Project leader Kate Toniolo said the proposed compatibility review is intended to ensure research does not interfere with the primary mission or operations of the refuges. Only projects with low or no adverse impacts will be considered, minimizing disruption to wildlife, habitats, ecosystems and cultural resources.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will accept comments received or postmarked by May 22.
