Pathways To Success Partners with Habitat for Humanity Restore for Snacks and Supplies Drive

LEWES, Del.- It's almost back to school for students across the area and Pathways to Success is getting a jump start in helping kids in their program.

The organization hosts many events and drives in order to raise money and get supplies for hundreds of high school students who need them to succeed. Pathways Fair Housing Educator Domineque Scott is proud to be a part of making a difference in students' futures.

"We give them a variety of activities to do with life skills and we kinda provide them with opportunities that they might not have if they weren't a part of our program," Scott said. "We give them the life skills that they need and we have a curriculum. It's just a great opportunity to go off and shine and be great after high school."

Pathways to Success collected non-perishable food items and supplies at today's event with many families contributing to the cause. State Senator Ernie Lopez stopped by. He says this event is important, especially with the school year starting soon.

"We've got a lot of phone calls over the course of this COVID situation we've been dealing with in regards to lacking proper food," Lopez said. "To make sure kids have food going back to a school environment is extremely important."

The collaboration between Pathways to Success and Habitat for Humanity was shown in full force during the drive. Pathways Board of Directors member Maribeth Dockety and Habitat Restore Manager Cathy Basenese stressed the importance of supporting non-profits in Sussex County.

"We've done a really good job of trying to market Pathways," Dockety said. "We do a lot of fundraisers, but since COVID-19 we have had to change the way we raise funds and raise money. So, we are trying to be more creative and with an event like this, we have the opportunity to showcase not only Pathways but the Restore for Habitat for Humanity."

"For us at the Restore, we are just we are just excited to be a part of the community as habitat that is part of our mission is to help the community," Basenese said. "To be a part of this beautiful day is really exciting for us."

Donors who could not make it to the event can drop off any donations at the Restore. Pathways is accepting monetary donations through the mail. They can be sent to the Pathways to Success Office at 31 The Circle in Georgetown.
