(SALISBURY, Md.) - The Wicomico County Sheriff's office has arrested a Salisbury woman who was found drunk sleeping in her car with a toddler in the back seat.
On Saturday June 4 at 2:30 a.m., a deputy responded to the report of a possible driver in distress on the 3000 block of Phillips Road. Upon arrival, the deputy observed a Volkswagen Passat stuck on top of a log adjacent to a driveway. The deputy observed that the operator, Amber Lee, appeared to be asleep as she was lying across the center console. The deputy also observed a small child asleep in the rear seat. The deputy woke Lee up and detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Lee. Due to the odor and other observed indicators, the deputy suspected impairment and began sobriety testing. Following her poor performance on the sobriety tests, the deputy placed Lee under arrest.
The deputy further discovered that the five year old child in the back seat was neither in a car seat or seat belted in.
During subsequent processing, Lee refused to submit to a breath test.
The deputy transported Lee to the Central Booking Unit where she was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. Following an initial appearance, the Commissioner detained Lee in the Detention Center in lieu of $5,000.00 bond.
