Rehoboth Police Investigate Tire Slashing Incidents

(REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.) Neighbors who live on Hickman St. in Rehoboth Beach woke up to find their tires were slashed.

Officers said they received six reports of slashed tires between Saturday night and Sunday morning. WRDE News spoke with neighbors near by who describe this at a 'malicious crime.'

"This was totally uncalled for," Kathy said. "We've done nothing to provoke anything like this, and it makes us very uncomfortable. What was the purpose? What could someone get out of this?"

Officers said the slashers left their marks late Saturday night and early Sunday morning. Chief Keith Banks said he rarely sees crime like this.

"One they started it seems like they thought 'I can get away with this' and made their way down the street," Banks said. "I don't know if they were intoxicated or what."

Officers said the slits seem to be made with a small blade like a box cutting knife.

"This time of year things typically slow down," Banks said. "We can designate more time to these types of crimes."

Chief Banks said they are relying on video surveillance to catch the culprits. If anyone has security cameras that could help officers. Police urge them to share the video with the department.
