Reports of Bullying Rise in School Districts Across the State

(SELBYVILLE, Del.) - Official state reports show that bullying has increased in Delaware. Sussex County's Indian River School District has seen the highest increase from 2015-2016. Preston Lewis, Administrator of Student Services, says that members of the district are very proactive handling bullying cases. Schools hold assemblies about bullying and other issues. When a bullying incident is reported it is investigated and police can even be notified if bullying doesn't stop and becomes harassment.

The Delaware Bullying reports show two numbers. One represents the alleged incidents and the other represents substantiated incidents. Substantiated incidents are events that were proven to be bullying.

Last week WRDE reports that students from the Cape Henlopen School District informed us about bullying at Cape High School. Ariana Carpenito said she had been bullied a lot. Forrest Carle said he was shoved into lockers. These students said they things to change.

According to state bullying reports, bullying in the Cape Henlopen District has gone down.

The Appoquinimink and Red Clay districts have the highest number of reported incidents overall.
