SUSSEX COUNTY, Del.- After a historic week for Delaware and Democratic Presidential Candidate Joe Biden, President Donald Trump and the Republican National Convention take center stage this week.
Delegates have arrived in Charlotte to take part, but once again there are no speeches expected to take place there. Vice President Mike Pence will accept the vice president nomination at Fort McHenry in Baltimore on Wednesday. President Trump will accept the presidential nomination on the East Lawn of the White House.
Delaware’s State Chairman for the Trump Campaign Rob Arlett says a unique situation presents itself this week just as it did last week at the DNC.
"It’s all virtual mostly and I think a lot more people are paying attention online and get different sources to get the information they are seeking from the candidates and the messaging through these conventions," Arlett said. "I think we saw that at the DNC convention here recently that was up in Wilmington and I think we will see it from the RNC Convention this next week."
If President Trump is re-elected, he would become the 22nd President to win the right to serve a second term And he would be the seventh Republican president to be elected to a second term since 1900.
WRDE’s retired Political Analyst John Brady says due to the large presence of Republicans in Sussex County and state government that this will be an important week for the county’s voters to tune in.
"Sussex County has nine elected county officials," Brady said. "All are Republican. Every state senator in Sussex is Republican. And, except for the Speaker of the House all members of the House are Republican. So, he is playing to this turf."
Another week of mostly virtual gathering kicks off Monday with the spotlight now on Charlotte, Baltimore, and our nation’s capital.
