SUSSEX COUNTY, Del.-Â A unique New Year's Eve to say the least.
With 2021 inching closer, you may soon be heading out the door for a nice meal or some cocktails. But there are some things you should know before you go.
As your walking or driving around, you will see more police officers around depending on where you are. Rehoboth Beach and Dewey Beach Police will have more staff than a normal shift and will be driving around.
The town of Dewey Beach is used to having a ball drop right in the middle of Coastal Highway. The capacity limit and curfew canceled the event this year, but Executive Director of the Dewey Business Partnership Kelly Ranieri says there are still businesses who are in need of customers.
"I just encourage everyone to come down to Dewey.," Ranieri said. "Grab takeout. We are going to be here all weekend. We will have everything in place that we are asked to do. So, come support us."
If you are heading out to celebrate, you will only be aloud to sit with bar service not available under Governor Carney restrictions. Also under the mandate, any place you go will be closing promptly at 10 p.m.
Big Chill Surf Cantina in Rehoboth Beach opened at Noon Thursday and is expecting a good turnout. They will also open at 10 a.m. New Year's Day. According to General Manager AJ Borrero, the COVID-19 rules have been a challenge, but in the end safety is most important.
"I still expect some business," Borrero said. "We think people are out. We have seen over the last week and half, you know, a lot of our college kids are back home and we are still enforcing the rules but they are still coming out. I think tonight should be no different."
Saying goodbye to a difficult 2020 with hopefully brighter days ahead.
