Salisbury Dealership Donates To Struggling Father Of Hospitalized Infant

(SALISBURY, Md.) - The father of a toddler suffering from Shaken Baby Syndrome is met with a surprise of a life time, Tuesday.

Nearly a month ago, 16 month old, Baby Mason entered into the biggest battle of his small life.

Baby Mason was hospitalized due to Shaken Baby Syndrome -- an injury that has caused severe trauma to the infant's brain.

"I dropped everything," Baby Mason's father recalled when he first learned of his son's injury. "I just panicked...he was in bad shape. He had bruises all over him."

Mason's dad - Jeremy Sennhauser - said his son was in the custody of his ex-wife, Mason's mother, when this all unfolded.

Now Jeremy has full custody and Delaware State Police investigate. We reached out to state police but our phone call went unanswered.

Stennhauser told WRDE the whole ordeal "hasn't been easy."

Swelling in Mason's brain has prompted surgery after surgery. At one point the doctor didn't know if Mason would make.

"I had that sinking heart feeling. 'I told him to do whatever you got to -- just keep him alive until I get there man.'"

With support at his side and through social media -- Stennhauser has been at Baby Mason's side every step of the way, despite car troubles.

That's where Chris Hagel and Pohanka of Salisbury step in.

"We are going to surprise Team Mason...it's the family of baby mason, with a brand new car," Hagel told WRDE.

Hagel said people at the dealership learned of Baby Mason's story and Stennhauser's struggles through Facebook. So they decided to partner with Stennhauser's job, Furniture Land, to donate him a shiny new blue 2015 Nissan Versa. Aside from the new vehicle, Furniture Land gave Stennhauser paid time off so he can care for Baby Mason.

"We're really happy to alleviate a little bit of that stress," said Hagel.

It's a surprise Stennhauser and Baby Mason will never forget.
