DAGSBORO, Del.- It only takes an idea to get something off the ground.
Speaking of which, Santa’s sleigh will be departing from the North Pole in a few days. While making his final preparations, he is taking some time to finish writing to the boys and girls who sent him a letter through his mailbox.
Co-Founder of Santa's Letters Inc. Sean Malone started putting it outside his house two years ago, and since then he has built a wonderland leading to the box. The children have taken pictures in Santa’s sleigh and can even see what’s happening inside his workshop.
"A lot of the kids that we were getting pictures back from, there was joy and happiness and the smiles on their face," Malone said. "It just made us feel good, so we kept doing it year after year."
We are just a few days away from Jolly Old Saint Nick and the elves loading up the sleigh. In the meantime, donations can be made to the Santa’s Letters Inc. charity which helps families who need essential items like jackets and shoes.
Some of the letters that came in through Santa’s mailbox were calls for help and that is how the charity was born. Local businesses have donated money to be sponsors for the cause.
"It’s been good to see the community just coming together, especially in a time like this," Malone said. "It just makes you feel good and you see Christmas come alive."
