Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is making the case for Alberta to remain in Canada, warning one week before the province’s referendum that separation would begin a “long and uncertain process” at a dangerous time for the country. The Oct. 19 vote asks Albertans whether the province should remain in Canada or begin the process of holding a referendum on separation. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith called the vote. Smith supports remaining in Canada. She says recent polling put support for separation at roughly 22%, a level she called “still too high for my liking.”
