A former CIA official has reached a tentative plea agreement after being charged with theft for inflating his salary. Court records show David J. Rush was found with $40 million in U.S. gold bars at his home. A federal judge extended the indictment deadline to Oct. 8 to allow time to finalize the plea deal and avoid a public trial. Rush was charged in May for fraudulently claiming military leave and inflating his salary with false degrees. Investigators seized about 300 gold bars, plus $2 million in cash and luxury watches from his home. His attorney says the federal charge isn't related to the gold bars.

A federal judge has allowed Missouri’s top court to proceed with a contempt hearing for Secretary of State Denny Hoskins in a dispute over new congressional districts supported by President Donald Trump. The state Supreme Court is to hold the contempt hearing Thursday. That court previously ordered Hoskins not to use a Trump-backed map in the November election. But on Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Stephen Clark barred Hoskins from using anything other than the new map Trump supports. State attorneys representing Hoskins wanted Clark to block the contempt hearing. But the federal judge declined to do so.

Lindsay Clancy’s attorney is asking a Massachusetts judge to acquit her of charges that she killed her three young children. Her trial ended in a mistrial. Defense attorney Kevin Reddington argues prosecutors failed to prove Clancy was criminally responsible and that the case should not be tried twice. Eleven of 12 jurors were prepared to find Clancy not guilty by reason of insanity. Clancy’s defense said she was suffering from postpartum psychosis when she killed her children in 2023. Prosecutors said she knew what she was doing. If the judge grants the motion, Clancy would not face another trial.
