A lease sale for offshore wind energy development in the Central Atlantic was announced Friday by the Department of the Interior. Seventeen companies qualified to bid on specific areas off the coast of Delaware, Maryland and Virginia, which will be auctioned on Aug. 14 by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management.

Though the town says it is not opposed to wind energy, it is raising concerns about views off its coast being impacted, titling a recent release "Save Our Sunrise." However, studies have shown the potential for both positive and neutral impacts of wind farms on areas with high rates of tourism, though they are inconclusive at this time.
