A massive explosion and fire at a pharmaceutical factory in Telangana, India, has killed at least 36 people. Authorities reported Tuesday that 34 charred bodies were recovered from the site, with two more workers succumbing to burns at a hospital. Nearly three dozen others are injured. The explosion occurred Monday in a spray dryer unit used for drug production. Officials say 108 workers were inside at the time. The factory’s structure has collapsed, and debris removal is ongoing. DNA tests are being conducted to identify victims. A government panel is investigating the cause of the incident.
