The Town of Fenwick Island has hired Michael Morrissey, a veteran of the Wilmington Police Department, to be its new police chief beginning Sept. 1. The hiring comes after conflict with current chief John Devlin, who was nonrenewed in May following disputes between him and the town's mayor.

Chief John Devlin's employment with the town is scheduled to end on Aug. 31, at the end of the original agreement's term. The town specified that Devlin's employment has not been terminated, though a unanimous decision was made to not renew or extend his contract.
