A Hong Kong court has convicted the publisher of The Wall Street Journal of deterring its reporter from taking up a trade union role. The court on Thursday acquitted Dow Jones Publishing Co. (Asia) Inc. of the charge of dismissal over the union role. Selina Cheng launched a private prosecution against Dow Jones Publishing Co. (Asia) Inc. after losing her job in 2024. Cheng earlier said that her supervisor told her that her participation in the union election was problematic. Dow Jones pleaded not guilty last year to two charges under the city’s Employment Ordinance. Each charge carries a maximum fine of about $12,750. The defense tried to convince the court during the trial that Cheng was terminated because of redundancy.

Five members of a cleaning crew were wrapping up their shift when they were killed as an Amazon cargo jet plowed into their van at the Miami airport. A lawyer for one of the victims, Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo, filed a wrongful death lawsuit Wednesday. The crew worked for Professional Ocean Service Corporation, which has cleaned planes at the airport for 15 years. The company cleans the inside and outside of private and commercial jets.
