Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey is proposing free home visits from nurses for every new parent in the state and expanded mental health screenings for new mothers. The announcement comes amid increased attention to maternal mental health following the high-profile Lindsay Clancy murder trial. Healey says she will seek $2 million to expand a federally funded program that currently provides home visits to about 3,000 families annually, with the goal of offering visits to families of all 68,000 newborns each year. She is also proposing additional funding for a perinatal mental health program and improved screening regulations.
