Myanmar has dropped its case against former American Chamber of Commerce board member Munimul Islam and withdrawn an Interpol red notice after finding insufficient evidence to support his extradition. Islam is a U.K.-based Bangladeshi businessman. He was arrested in Spain in September over allegations of financial impropriety involving a $300,000 lobbying contract. Spanish authorities have ended proceedings against him. The dispute also led to the arrests of two former AmCham Myanmar officials who were later released or deported. Islam said Monday that his detention caused significant personal and reputational harm and is considering legal action. He has accused those involved of abusing judicial processes.
