Navi Pillay, a veteran jurist from South Africa, has won the Nobel Peace Prize. She is known for defending Nelson Mandela's rights and leading a panel that found Israel committed genocide in Gaza. Pillay has served as a judge in international courts, including the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice. She was involved in the ICC's first conviction of Congolese warlord Thomas Lubanga. Pillay also led the Rwanda tribunal, which recognized sexual violence as a war crime. She is currently an ad hoc judge at the ICJ in the genocide case against Myanmar.
